joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness and self-control.
Galatians 5:22-23
The Green Valley United Methodist Preschool & Kindergarten is an extension of the ministry of the Green Valley United Methodist Church.
We believe learning is a cooperative effort, which includes the partnership of teachers, parents and children. We are committed to providing an exceptional experience to all who attend our school.
In all our goals, we strive to live and share the message of God’s love expressed through His son, Jesus Christ.
Mission Statement
We strive to provide a secure, positive, friendly, and wholesome Christian learning environment with the greatest opportunities for fellowship and cognitive and physical development.
Curriculum & Objectives
Bible
One distinctive quality about our kindergarten is the emphasis placed on the love of God through His son Jesus Christ. The children learn a different fruit of the spirit (Gal 5: 22-23) each month. Our Bible curriculum, Biblical Choices, is published by Standard Publishing. Biblical Choices is a multisensory, activity-based Bible curriculum created for kindergarten. It is divided into three areas of emphasis: Creation, right choices, and the life of Christ.
Language Arts
Our students are taught reading in a positive, individualized environment. Our curriculum is based both on phonics and the recognition of high-frequency words. Our main goal is to develop students who love to read.
Math
We utilize the Kathy Richardson math curriculum for number operations that was designed to help young children develop important foundational mathematics concepts.
We believe that a strong manipulative program helps students achieve greater mathematical understanding.
Social Studies & Science
The social studies and science lessons are interactive and “hands-on”. For example, we plant an herb garden and learn about its maintenance.
Experiential learning is encouraged as we take monthly field trips related to unit studies.
Physical Education, Music, Art & Computers
Our students have the opportunity to engage in extra-curricular activities in physical education, music and art. We feature an “artist of the month” chosen from the great masters. We believe this encourages our students to learn the rich heritage of the arts.
We offer the Kindergarten Advantage! Program provided by Computer Explorers. KA! is a unique technology applications course specifically designed for kindergarten students. The goal is to help students build a foundation for basic computer usage, keyboarding, word-processing, graphics, multimedia presentations and spreadsheets. Students use special “kid-friendly” software that overlays Microsoft Office®.
