The following is a list of missions in which Green Valley UMC regularly participates. Click on the Mission title to learn more this wonderful opportunity to serve others.

A.C.T.S. (Assisting the Community Through Service) occurs approximately every other month. Church members identify needs in the community and then arrange to meet those needs with volunteers and materials. On A.C.T.S. weekends, participants gather at the church for instructions and a send-off. Then they head out into the community to show Christ's love to the world.

ANGEL TREE is an annual program which allows GVUMC to reach out to families of prisoners. Angel Tree Christmas works by connecting parents in prison with their children through the delivery of Christmas gifts. There is so much joy that comes with sharing Christ's love with kids who have a mom or dad in prison.

THE SOCIETY OF ST. STEPHEN offers food assistance at Trinity UMC. Our church regularly collects non perishable food for this Food Bank.

FRIENDS IN THE DESERT is a ministry that helps feed the homeless and working poor in the city of Henderson. GVUMC has been involved with this ministry for over ten years. Through this ministry, home cooked meals are brought to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in downtown Henderson, and as many as 60 to 80 people of all ages (including children) are served by GV volunteers once a week, four times a month. In addition to serving on the first Friday of the month, GVUMC volunteers serve on the first, second, and third Mondays of each month. Four different groups, each with their own unique menu, provide hot, nourishing meals to those who are less fortunate.

HATS AND HANDS is a project to provide warm clothing to homeless and low-income people in Las Vegas during the winter season.  Hats and scarves are knitted by many volunteers throughout the year to be given out at shelters and food closets across the city.

IMAGINE NO MALARIA is an extraordinary effort of the people of The United Methodist Church, putting our faith into action to end preventable deaths by malaria in Africa, especially the death of a child or a mother. Our donations help to buy mosquito nets, medical supprot and education to help stop the spread of deaths due to malaria.

THE RAINING SEASON  is dedicated to helping the orphans and struggling families of Sierra Leone in West Africa.  The Raining Season operates an orphanage in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone.  It is called The Covering and currently houses 120+ orphans ranging from infants to mid-teens.

THREE SQUARE FOOD BANK benefits over 600 Program Partners in Southern Nevada including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, after-school programs, senior citizens and more. Our monthly involvement supports the BackPack for Kids program of the 3Square Food Bank.  This project assembles a weekend's worth of non-perishable meals for over 5000 children in Clark County schools.  Food is put into plastic grocery bags every week by volunteers at the Three Square facility.  The bags are distributed by Three Square to valley schools every Friday where they are sent home with the kids in their backpacks.  All recipients are children on special feeding programs at their schools and, in many cases, the backpack meals are the kids' only reliable food source for the weekends.
