Music Ministries

Hi, I'm Dr. Lindsay Whelan, music director at Green Valley UMC. Growing up in Methodist churches, music was always my favorite part of the service. I would frequently leave with a hymn tune stuck in my head, or write down hymn numbers I would want to go home and learn on the piano. Music is a huge part of our worship services here at GVUMC, and our music ministries are thriving. Whether it's singing in the choir, ringing with the bells, or rocking out with the praise band, there is a place for anyone who wants to join music.

Chancel Choir
   This is our more traditional choir that sings weekly at the 8:30 service from September - June. When you think of a church choir, this is probably what comes to mind. We wear beautiful burgundy robes, and provide an Introit and special offertory music each week.  
Rehearsals are Thursday nights from 6-7 in the sanctuary. Being able to read music is helpful, but definitely not a requirement.

Handbell Choir
Handbell choirs are becoming more rare, but ours is alive and well. Each ringer is responsible for playing 2-4 bells. This is a great new challenge for people, and no previous experience is required!
Rehearsals are Thursday nights from 7-8 in the music room (downstairs.) We play in service approximately once a month, and for special holidays.

Praise Band
  This contemporary group provides all music for our 11:00 service. We are always looking for additional vocalists, and instrumentalists such as guitar, bass, or anything else you think could fit in a rock band. 
Rehearsals are Thursday nights from 5-6 in the sanctuary.
